The UPEI men’s hockey Panthers got back on the winning track scoring all five goals on the power play in 5-2 win at St. FX. That ends a three game losing skid on the road. Kaleb Pearson, Zac Beauregard, Carson MacKinnon, Kurtis Henry and Troy Lajuenesse scored for UPEI.
The women’s Panthers came back to edge #7 St. FX, 3-2 in overtime for probably their biggest win of the season in one of the most entertaining games of the season. UPEI made it seven straight wins as Ashley McCutcheon scored the tying goal late in the third and the winner on a power play in overtime. X had led 2-0 on a pair of power play goals. Kierra St. Peter scored his first in the AUS to mount the comeback.
Canada won the gold for the first time in women’s hockey at the World University Games in Lake Placid shutting out Japan, 5-0 behind the goaltending of UNB’s Kendra Woodland. Canada plays the US in the men’s gold medal final tonight.
The Charlottetown Islanders won their second straight, 5-4 facing Chicoutimi in the Q. The Isles led 4-1 before the game got closer in the third. Michael Horth scored his 17th of the season for Charlottetown.
The Summerside Western Capitals scored twice in the third to get by Campbellton, 6-4 in the battle for second place in the MHL. Trent Crane had three goals and an assist. Marc Richard had a goal and two assists. Summerside and Campbellton are tied for second and six points back of first place Edmundston.
The Charlottetown Knights doubled Kensington, 4-2 in Major U18. Jonah MacDonald and Dawson Sharkey scored third period goals for the first place Knights.The Knights are 19-5 and 10 points up on second place Moncton.
Pownal won 4-2 in Alberton in PEI U18. The Regals still lead Mid Isle, Kings County and Pownal by three points in the race for first. Aiden Drake scored the winner. Will Landry had two goals.
The Richibucto Rangers got by the Kings County Rivermen, 6-4 in Jr. B. Mark Richard scored two goals for the Rangers. Matt Shea and Reese McIsaac among the goal scorers for the Rivermen.
Montreal edged Toronto, 3-2 in overtime on a goal by Rem Pitlick.
Edmonton stopped Vancouver, 4-2 in the final game for Bruce Boudreau as head coach of the Canucks. He’ll be replaced by Rick Tocchet on Monday.
Winnipeg over Ottawa, 5-1. Mark Scheifele scored twice for the Jets.
Calgary skated past Tampa Bay, 6-3. Dillon Dube had the winning goal.
In the NFL playoffs the Philadelphia Eagles routed the NY Giants, 38-7. Kansas City over Jacksonville, 27-20.
UPEI won 76-71 at St. FX in men’s basketball. Elijah Miller had 30 points in the upset. UPEI improves to 9-4. X is first at 12-3. The women Panthers won 85-44 over X. Aiden Rainford and Grace Lancaster had 15 points each.
Boston got by Toronto, 106-104 in the NBA. Pascal Siakam led the Raptors with 2
9 points. Jaylen Brown had 27 for the Celtics who lead the Atlantic at 35-12. The Raptors are 20-27.
Marc Campbell had four winners at Red Shores in Charlottetown in harness racing. Gilles Barrieau drove three wins including Stash Away in the 11th in 1.58/2.
