The Residential Rental Association of PEI says Government’s announcement that landlords who seek and are granted greater than allowable rent increases will be ineligible for the property tax rebate program is misguided. Association Chairperson Parker Perry suggests that the latest move will actually harm many tenants because before the announcement was made, any decision by IRAC on a greater than allowable rent increase would likely be reduced as a result of the proposed tax rebate. Perry argues that by excluding landlords from accessing the tax rebate, the King Government is subjecting tenants to the risk of higher greater-than-allowable rent increases.
