UPEI doubled SMU, 8-4 Friday night
The #9 ranked UPEI men’s hockey Panthers made it five straight wins and 9 in their last 10 with an 8-4 effort over the Saint Mary’s Huskies. First year forward Ryan Stepien scored three times. He got the Panthers on the board in the first period and put it away with two more in the third.
Kaleb Pearson had a goal and two assists. Matt Brassard had four assists. UPEI is 10-4.
The women Panthers got by St. Thomas, 3-2 in overtime. Ashley McCutcheon scored the tying and winning goals.
Val-d’or went to overtime to edge the Charlottetown Islanders, 3-2 in the Q. Kale McCallum scored the winner with six seconds left in OT.
Owen Hollingsworth tied the game in the second for the Isles.
Brock Boeser and Elias Pettersson both scored twice as the Vancouver Canucks stopped the LA Kings, 4-1. That was only NHL game Friday night.
The Sherwood Metros scored three shorthanded goals in a 9-5 win in Richibucto in Jr. B. James Wood scored twice for the Metros.
Cape Pele over Three Rivers, 5-1. The Rivermen are 0-6.
The Monctonian tournament is under way. Kensington dropped St. Joseph Seminiare, 6-1 led by Ryan Howatt with four goals the Wild is 1-1.
Charlottetown Knights have a win and a tie.

It’s PEI Horseman’s and Horsewoman’s Day at Red Shores in Charlottetown with the annual Drivers Championship on the 14-dash program. Post time is 12.30. Marc Campbell is the defending champion from 2021. The eight dash competition will go in races 3 to 9 and 11 and 12. The drivers will go after the Paul MacDonald Memorial Trophy.
The 5-1 UPEI men’s basketball Panthers are at UNB this evening after the women’s Panthers take to the court face the Reds in the AUS.
The women’s hockey Panthers go for a second straight win at Moncton this afternoon.
The Charlottetown Islanders continue a road trip at Rouyn-Noranda with the Huskies in the Q.
In Jr. B hockey, the Kensington Vipers host the Richibucto Rangers. Central Attack at Alberton in PEI U18 at 7.00.
