5,000 more Islanders are without a family doctor with the departure of Dr. Stephen Scales from his practice in Charlottetown which was announced this month.
There are over 24-thousand Islanders without a family doctor or nurse practitioner.
Dr. Scales is leaving his family practice effective Tuesday. He says he took months of consideration before making what he says was a difficult decision.
Former patients are advised to sign on the province’s registry or waiting list for a new doctor.
Health PEI says it’s aware more physicians may be reducing or leaving their practice due to heavy workload and two years of stress from the pandemic.
Four doctors have now left their practice in PEI in the past month.
