A new discount air carrier has arrived in Charlottetown. Swoop arrived on Sunday morning at 11.00 from Hamilton, Ontario at the Charlottetown Airport. Swoop is Canada’s ultra-low cost airline which was established in 2018 as an independent subsidiary of WestJet.
It offers low cost airfare as Canadians plan summer travels. Only $49 for a flight to Hamilton and Toronto and $109 to Edmonton. The Hamilton service will be four times a week during the peak summer months and three days a week to Toronto. The Edmonton flight will begin on June 16th.
The flight departed back for Hamilton at 11.45.
There was a welcoming ceremony and ribbon cutting at the Airport to welcome Swoop. Swoop’s Head of Commercial and Finance Bert van der Stege, the CEO for the Hamilton International Airport, Charlottetown Airport CEO Doug Newson, PEI Transportation Minister James Aylward and Charlottetown Deputy Mayor Jason Coady were on hand for the ceremony.
