Environment Canada has issued a Winter Storm Warning for PEI. It is calling this a major winter storm with 30 to 50 cm expected. Periods of rain should start this afternoon, and that will transition to snow this evening. Snow will become heavy at times overnight, and continue through the day Friday and into Saturday. The highest snowfall accumulations are expected in Prince County, while current guidance suggests that southeastern areas of Queens County and southern regions of Kings County can expect an extended period of ice pellets mixing with the snow beginning early Friday morning and continuing through to Saturday morning. Snow and ice pellets will taper to flurries Saturday afternoon.
