The Province says PEI’s home repair programs for families, seniors and Islanders in need of support are doubling immediately and are retroactive to April 1, 2021. The 2021-22 provincial operating budget includes $2 million for the PEI Home Renovation, Seniors Home Repair, and Seniors Safe at Home programs. Initially, the plan was to increase incrementally over a three-year period, but now eligible grants are doubling on any application received from April 1, 2021 and onward. Depending on household income, Seniors Safe at Home will increase from $5,000 to $10,000; Seniors Home Repair will increase from $2,000 to $4,000; PEI Home Renovation will increase from $6,000 to $12,000; and PEI Home Renovation for people with disabilities will increase from $8,000 to $16,000. These programs provide financial assistance to qualifying Islanders to help cover the cost of major structural renovations to their homes.
