Cedric Desruisseaux continued his hot scoring hand as the Charlottetown Islanders (11-2) built up a 3-1 and held off the Cape Breton Eagles, 4-3 in the Q completing a weekend sweep. Desruisseaux scored his 16th and 17 goals and increased his goal scoring streak to 12 games. Only 3 players including Sidney Crosby have done that since 2000. The 20-year old had 14 goals last season with the Islanders and his career high is 24 with Drummondville in 2017-18. He’s on pace to score 78 goals this season.
Noah Laaouan had a big night with the game winner and two assists. Thomas Casey also scored for the Islanders who move 4 points up on second place Acadie-Bathurst. The Islanders have won 3 in a row.
Charlottetown hosts Saint John Friday night and plays in Halifax on Saturday Night Islanders Hockey on Ocean 100 at 6.45.
The Titan lost 5-3 in Moncton. Gabriel Bernier scored the winner with 5 minutes left in the third period. Bennett MacArthur and Zach Biggar both had an assist for the Titan. Wellington, PEI goalie Chad Arsenault took the loss but made 36 saves. He’s now 6-5.
Saint John edged Halifax, 4-3 in a shootout. Jeremie Poirier had a hat trick.
The Yarmouth Mariners blanked the Summerside Western Capitals (2-1), 3-0 in the MHL. Sam Gillis with the game winner only 2 minutes into the first period. Carson Lanceleve had a goal and assist for the Mariners. Justin Sumarah made 26 saves to record the shutout.
The Saint John Vitos got by the Kensington Wild, 6-5 in a shootout in Major Under 18. Keifer Lyons scored the shootout winner.
In PEI Under 18, the Alberton Western Regals lost 7-4 to the visiting Pownal Red Devils. Sam Worth and Holden Bradley each had a pair of goals for Pownal.
Tignish stopped North River, 3-1 in Jr. C. Tristan Cahill got the game winner in the final period.
The Summerside Clippers won their 6th straight Potato Bowl championship with a 32-6 victory over the Charlottetown Privateers in the PEI Varsity football final at the Terry Fox Complex in Cornwall.
The Summerside Spartans won the Bantam Hilton Bowl, 33-0 over the Privateers.
The Cornwall Timberwolves took the Under 12 Atom Championship, 12-6 facing the Privateers.
Dustin Johnson has a four shot lead heading to the final round of the Masters after his second 65 this week, 7 under par. Johnson is four ahead of Im Sung-Jae, Abraham Ancer and Cameron Smith.
Miss Kabana with Vince Poulton driving was an upset winner in the 11th race feature winning in 2.00/1 on a sloppy track.
The CDP’s leading driver, Marc Campbell won three races including Howmac Blaze in the 12th.
Glider Man with David Dowling in the bike won the Open Trot in 2.01/3.
