The Charlottetown Islanders pulled out a 3-2 win in Sydney over the Cape Breton Screaming Eagles in the Q.
Gaetan Jobin got the winner at 14.08 in the third. It’s the Isles third road win in four games away. It also puts the Islanders just a point back of first place Moncton in the Maritimes. Justin Gill with his first this season and Brett Budgell also connected for Charlottetown. The Islanders host the Gatineau Olympiques on Monday afternoonat 3.00 on Remembrance Day.
The Summerside Western Capitals made it seven straight wins stopping the Campbellton Tigers, 7-4 at home. Bennett MacArthur with the hat-trick. Kallum Muirhead scored twice. The Caps lead the Maritime Jr. League with 15 wins and only 3 losses. Brodie MacArthur had a goal and assist and leads the Maritime league with 20 goals and 35 points. Muirhead is right behind him with 34 points. The Caps honoured veterans and current Canadian military personnel during their annual night to salute Canada’s military history.
The UPEI men’s Panthers made in back-to-back weekend wins, 4-1 at Dalhousie. Rookie Darian Pilon scored three times – one in each period – while Troy Lajuenesse also tallied. UPEI now 4-6-2. Pilon was the player of the game.
UNB moved into a first place tie with Acadia, edging the Axemen, 4-3. Tyler Boland connected the winner with 47 seconds left. Moncton surprised Saint Mary’s, 6-1.
The UPEI women’s Panthers blanked visiting Moncton, 1-0. The only goal scored by Tyler Gillis in the third. Shaylin MacFarlane made 8 saves for the Panthers 5th shutout this season. UPEI is 9-2 and 2 points back of first place Saint Mary’s. The Huskies got by St. Thomas, 2-1.
The Philadelphia Flyers went to a shootout to beat the Toronto Maple Leafs, 3-2 but the Leafs are more concerned about losing Mitch Marner who went down with an ankle injury after falling during a face-off.
Montreal held off Los Angeles, 3-2. Shea Weber scored twice.
Pittsburgh got by Chicago, 3-2. Sidney Crosby left the game after blocking a shot.
In Major Midget, the Kensington Wild shutout the Northern Moose, 5-0.
Kent, New Brunswick blanked the Eastern Maniacs, 6-0 in Jr. B.
Tignish got by North River, 4-3 in Jr. C.
The Central Attack downed Prince County, 12-1 in Bantam AAA.
The UPEI women’s basketball Panthers took their first loss, 96-88 at St. F.X. Reese Baxendale had 22 points.
The men’s Panthers lost 88-75 to the X-Men. Jamesley Jerome led UPEI with 15 points. Elijah Miller and Dakelle Brooks both had 14.
Holland College won 94-69 over UNB Saint John in women’s action.
The Holland College men won 100-64 over the Seahawks.
Collective Wisdom won the featured 11th race at Red Shores in Charlottetown in 2.01/4 on a sloppy track. Gilles Barrieau was in the bike. He had four wins on the program. Racing again today at 12.30.
