Passenger traffic is up at the Charlottetown Airport for the month of July by 7.2% over last year. That’s a positive impact for overall tourism in PEI for the month. Increased seat capacity on the part of Air Canada and West Jet for the summer months has led to more air passengers flying to the Island. Charlottetown Airport CEO Doug Newson says expects to see similar increases throughout the year.
Tourism PEI officials also believe direct campaigns to Ontario and international markets have impacted more air traffic
Meantime cruise ship traffic was down down 31% in July into Port Charlottetown after seeing an increase in June. August is expected to see positive numbers with the fall months expected to be the busiest of the year.
The overall number of visitors is expected to be 150,000 off cruise ships.
