Funeral mass for one of PEI’s favourite hockey players and referees in the 70’s and 80’s will be held on Monday in Summerside.
Mike “Pinky” Gallant died at age 61 last Wednesday after a battle with prostate cancer.
Funeral mass will be held at 10.30 Monday morning at St. Paul’s Church.
Visiting hours were held Sunday at the Moase Funeral Home.
Pinky was known for his toughness and is considered to have been one of the Island’s best fighters on the ice in the 70’s. But he was also a goal scorer.
Gallant had 31 goals and 64 points plus 140 minutes in penalties for the Summerside Crystals in Island Jr. hockey in 1977-78 and finished 7th in scoring. He later coached and became an outstanding referee.
Two of his sons also played Junior with the Summerside Western Capitals. Brett and Alex Gallant now play in the American Hockey League.
