A fan favourite in the 70’s and 80’s in PEI hockey has passed away. Mike “Pinky” Gallant has died at age 61 after a battle with prostate cancer.
Pinky was a top rated player in Junior with Summerside and later became a coach and well respected referee.
He was an enforcer but also a top goal scorer, usually getting 20-30 goals a season.
He is the father of Brad, Brett and Alex Gallant. Brett and Alex play in the AHL.
American J.B.Holmes fired a 5-under 66 to take the first round lead in the British Open at Royal Portrush in Northern Ireland.
