SUNDAY SPORTS – New Brunswick Downs PEI Mustangs in National Wheelchair Basketball Final

New Brunswick came back to defeat the PEI Mustangs, 52-50 in the gold medal game in the Tier 2 final in the Canadian Wheelchair Basketball League championships at UPEI.
Jacob Fudge put New Brunswick up on a foul shot and scored a two pointer seconds later in the final minute.
Adam Loo had a three pointer with 8 seconds left for PEI.
PEI won the silver after being unbeaten after four games.

It’s an all-Island final in the Don Johnson Cup Atlantic Jr. B hockey championship in Kensington.

The hometown Vipers came back from a 2-0 deficit to drop the Moncton Vitos in the semi-finals, 6-3. A four goal second period paved the way.

Murray Garrett scored twice.

Logan Vander-Velden added a goal and 2 assists.

In a thriller in the other semi-final, the Western Red Wings got by the Sackville Blazers, 1-0 in overtime.

Alex Morrissey scored the winner set up by Austin Taylor at 13.23 in OT.

Sackville goalie Justin Sumarah made 58 saves in a dynamic performance.

Luke Oliver earned the shut0ut with 31 saves in the Vipers net.

The championship games goes at 2.00.

The Columbus Blue Jackets continue their playoff wizardry.

Matt Duchene scored at 3.42 in the second overtime as the Jackets edged the Boston Bruins, 3-2.

Sergei Bobrosky made 29 saves.

The series is tied, 1-1 going back to Ohio.

WHAT’S ON TODAY

The host Kensington Vipers and the Western Red Wings meet today at 2.00 in the championship game of the Don Johnson Cup.

The team from Evangeline has won the last three meetings between to two clubs.

The all-Island final came about with Kensington winning 6-3 over Moncton and the Red Wings going to overtime to get by Sackville, Nova Scotia, 1-0 last night.

The Wings won the Island Jr. B championship in 5 games over the Vipers earlier this month and have gone 5-1 vs Kensington in post-season play facing their Island rivals. That includes a 5-3 win against the Vipers in the opener of the regional tournament.

Kensington won the Don Johnson in 2011 and 2013.

The Halifax Mooseheads can advance to the Q President’s Cup final with a win at home over the Drummondville Voltigeurs this afternoon. The Mooseheads up 3-2.

The winner gets the Rouyn-Noranda Huskies in the final.
