The Cape Breton Screaming Eagles outlasted the Charlottetown Islanders, 4-3 in a shootout on PEI Senators night at the Eastlink Centre.
The Islanders wore PEI Senators uniforms from the mid-1990’s on the special night.
Brooklyn Kalmikov tied the game 3-3 halfway through the third period for the Eagles. Brett Budgell, Nikita Alexandrov and William Sirman scored for the Islanders.
Derek Gentile and Egor Sokolov scored for Cape Breton in the shootout.

Former PEI Senators Norm Batherson and Darcy Simon took part in the ceremonial puck drop prior to the Islanders-Screaming Eagles game on Friday night as the Islanders paid tribute to the AHL team that played in the Civic Centre from 1993 to 1996. Ottawa pulled out its top farm club in late April, 1996 citing poor attendance.

PANTHERS LOSE 4TH IN A ROW
The UPEI Panthers took their fourth straight loss as they bowed 5-1 at St. F.X. to the X-Men.
X enjoyed a three goal 3rd period. Adam Stevens scored once and set up another. Owen Headrick had the only Panthers goal.

First place UNB blanked last place Dalhousie, 4-0 outshooting the Tigers, 64-21. Ryan Parenteau had the shutout and Tyler Boland scored twice.

The Moncton Flyers shutout the Kensington Wild, 3-0 in the battle for first in Major Midget.

The Kings County Kings handed the Western Regals their first loss this season in PEI Midget AAA with a 5-3 victory sparked by Jason Outhouse and Ben MacIsaac who scored in the 3rd. The Alberton Regals now 21-1.
Mid Isle got by the Central Attack, 5-4.

NHL ALL-STAR WEEKEND
The NHL All-Star weekend is underway in San Jose.
Last night the Skills Competition where Connor McDavid was the fastest skater for the third straight year. Johnny Gaudreau won the puck control contest, John Carlson had the hardest shot and David Pastrnak won the shooting accuracy test. Leon Draisaitl won the premier passing contest.
Goalie Hendrik Ludqvist won the save streak competition.

The NHL is introducing puck and player tracking next season according to Commissioner Gary Bettman.
A micro chip will be inserted in player jerseys and in pucks. Things like speed and movement will be tracked.

Charlottetown’s Wally Hennessey became just the 17th driver with 10 thousand or more career wins at Pompano Park in Florida. The 62-year old is a member of the PEI Sports Hall of Fame.
