The biomass heating units at provincial buildings across the Island are now fully owned and operated by a PEI company.
With $5.8-million in financing provided by the province, Atlantic Bioheat now owns 11 boilers with another under construction at Hernewood School.
Economic Development Minister Chris Palmer says this deal allows the province and Atlantic Bioheat to partner to help improve our environment by reducing emissions and heating costs at public facilities.”
The Provincial Government’s Climate Action Plan calls for the installation of 20 more biomass units at public facilities over the next five years.
