Mel Gass, a former Leader of the PC Party of PEI, has died at the age of 79. Gass died Tuesday at the Queen Elizabeth Hospital.
He was elected to Parliament three times for the riding of Malpeque, serving nine years as a federal MP. From 1988 to 1990, Gass served as leader of the PC Party of PEI.
Gass also saw great success as an entrepreneur with several businesses, and was instrumental in the growth of the Island’s tourism industry.
A funeral service will be held Saturday morning.
