China’s ambassador to Canada has cancelled a trip to PEI amid a simmering dispute over the arrest Huawei executive Meng Wanzhou.
Lu Shaye was reportedly supposed to attend meetings with Premier Wade MacLauchlan, Lieutenant-Governor Antoinette Perry and members of the Island’s business community.
The Chinese Embassy has condemned the arrest of Wanzhou and pledged to “resolutely protect the legitimate rights and interests of Chinese citizens.”
Wanzhou was arrested in Vancouver at the request of U-S law enforcement authorities.
