A rally was held in Charlottetown Saturday at the office of MP Sean Casey in support of Canada Post employees who were ordered to stop rotating strikes by the federal government last week.
About 30 people showed up including Carl Pursey, president of the PEI Federation of Labour. He said the government violated postal workers’ constitutional rights by forcing them back to work.
Casey said back-to-work legislation came a year after the government encouraged both sides to finish negotiations on a new contract.
He also said rotating strikes that were carried out in the last month had an effect on people like seniors and those living in rural areas.
