The new Stewart Memorial Home in Tyne Valley opened on the weekend, providing long-term and respite care for seniors in Prince County.
The $8.4 million facility contains 22 long-term beds and two respite care beds. The private rooms each have washrooms and home-like living and dining areas.
There is also space for a news senior’s day program and for families supporting residents in palliative care.
Gayle Lamont, administrator of long-term care for East Prince, said this is an important step toward ensuring older Islanders can access the facilities they need – in the regions where they live.
Residents and staff will begin transitioning to the new facility next week and will be moved in the first week of December.
