The Green Party is calling on Transportation, Infrastructure and Energy Minister Paula Biggar to resign and apologize to the Francophone community.
It stems from an email sent by Biggar to an Island mother who wrote to the Minister concerning renovations for Evangeline School. The letter was written in French and Minister Biggar responded with the statement, “I don’t speak French.” The Green Party says that’s a clear violation of the province’s French Language Services Act, which says that when Government receives written correspondence in French, the written response must be in French.
The Department says Biggar did respond that the letters have been forwarded to the Minister of Education, Early Learning and Culture for further consideration.
It also says Biggar and other government officials will be reaching out to the mother to see if she would like to arrange a meeting.
