Basil Stewart will once again be Mayor of Summerside.
Stewart, who served as Mayor from 1985 to 2014, won Monday’s municipal election, defeating Nancy Beth Guptill and Brent Gallant. Stewart garnered 2392 votes to Guptill’s 2115.
In Charlottetown, former Councillor Philip Brown won the Mayor’s race, defeating Kim Devine, Cecil Villard, Jamie Larkin and William McFadden. It was Brown’s third campaign for the Mayoralty, having lost twice previously to Clifford Lee. He has served two terms as Councillor.
Steve Ogden will be the new Mayor in Stratford. The veteran Councillor defeated Jody Jackson and Sandy McMillan.
In Cornwall, Minerva McCourt won another term as Mayor, winning over Graham Hicken.
The first elected Mayor of the new municipality of Three Rivers will be Eddie MacAulay.
Other mayoralty winners Monday included David Gordon in Alberton; Charles MacKenzie in Borden-Carleton; Neila Auld in Crapaud; Albert Gallant in Miscouche; Paul White in Murray Harbour; and Dr. Stephen O’Brien in Souris.
