Island voters head to the polls Monday in municipal elections.
In PEI’s four largest municipalities of Charlottetown, Summerside, Stratford and Cornwall, only one of the current mayors is seeking re-election. That’s Minerva McCourt in Cornwall. She’s being challenged by Graham Hicken.
The other three will all see new mayors elected.
In Charlottetown, there are 5 mayoralty candidates — Philip Brown, Kim Devine, Jamie Larkin, William McFadden and Cecil Villard.
Seeking the Summerside mayoralty are Brent Gallant, Nancy Beth Guptill and Basil Stewart.
And in Stratford, Jody Jackson, Sandy McMillan and Steve Ogden all look to take over from outgoing Mayor David Dunphy.
Elections PEI is overseeing the votes in those municipalities, with the polls opening at 9 this morning and closing at 7 tonight.

As for the other municipalities across the Island, there are changes that have been brought in by the province with the new Municipal Government Act. Gone are the special election meetings, and all must now have the full nomination process and all-day voting Monday.
In many municipalities, no voting is required because candidates for Mayor and Council all won by acclamation.
But there are a number of races. To highlight some:
There’s a lot of interest in the newly formed Three Rivers municipality. In fact, roughly 20% of eligible voters in Three Rivers have already cast their ballots in advanced polls. There are 5 candidates vying for Mayor and 20 candidates for 10 council seats. Two other council seats were won by acclamation.
In Alberton, there are three candidates for Mayor — incumbent Michael Murphy, David Gordon and Rosetta Tremblay.
Four mayoralty candidates are on the ballot in Murray Harbour with Garry Herring looking to keep the job, plus Shawn Landon, Wendy Siebrands and Paul White.
In Miscouche, there are two candidates for Mayor, Albert Gallant and Stacey MacAusland, and 7 candidates for council.
Borden-Carleton sees three candidates for Mayor, including Charles MacKenzie, Shane Maclean and Robert Palmer. There are 12 Councillor candidates.
In Crapaud, there are two mayoralty candidates — incumbent Mike Connolly and Neila Auld.
And in Souris, Dr. Stephen O’Brien is looking to stay on the job he started in september of 2017. He’s being challenged by Shane Clements. There are 10 candidates for 6 council positions.
