Friday night’s tornados that touched down in Dunrobin, just west of Ottawa and Gatineau, Quebec destroyed or damaged homes and knocked out power to 100,000 Hydro Ottawa customers.
It will likely take days to restore service in many neighbourhoods that were hardest hit.
The tornado that hit outside of Ottawa had wind speeds of up to 220 km an hour.
Over 40 homes were totally destroyed by the twister.
Todd Nicholson, a member of Canada’s Paralympic sledge hockey team lost his home, leaving just the foundation.
The children’s fish bowl was also spared.
Nicholson is a team-mate of Summerside’s Billy Bridges on Team Canada. Bridges Tweeted about the incident and support for Nicholson on Saturday.
A church suffered severe damage as well.
The tornado went across the Ottawa River and damaged several homes and businesses and vehicles in Gatineau.
Roof tops were destroyed by the powerful storm.
