Basil Stewart is making a comeback announcing his intention to run for mayor in Summerside.
Stewart held the post for 29 years beginning in 1985 when Summerside was still a town.
He was defeated by Bill Martin in the 2014 civic election.
Martin is not seeking re-election.
Stewart was a 13-year veteran of the Summerside Police Department when he ran for mayor in 1985.
The only other candidate is Brent Gallant, who is councillor for Ward 4 in the city.
Stewart suffered a heart attack last year but says he’s now in good health and has lost nearly 100 pounds.
He says he still has something to offer the city.
