James Aylward has announced he’s stepping down as Leader of the Progressive Conservative Party of PEI.
Aylward says it has become clear over the past couple of months that he has not been able to make a strong enough connection with Islanders. He adds that with an election looming, he wanted to provide the PC Party with the best opportunity to win.
Aylward will continue to serve as leader until a successor is chosen.
He says he will also continue to serve as the MLA for Stratford – Kinlock, and will be re-offering in the district in the next election.
