The Province and the group Alternative Land Use Services Canada have teamed up in an effort to help protect some grassland bird species, including the federally protected bobolink.
Through their initiative, many island farmers have agreed to delay their first cut of hay until after July 15th, when bobolink have fledged the nest.
ALUS Canada will provide the provincial government with $90,000 over three years for the program. The farmers get $25 per acre.
