The Fire Marshal’s Office investigation into the fire that destroyed the Montague Town Hall has determined that it started in the mulch outside the building. The Fire Marshal’s Office says mulch layers should be no more than three inches thick, and keep mulch used around a building moist.
Meanwhile, the fire at the Cavendish Post Office has been ruled accidental as well, and it appears to have started with a cigarette butt. When you throw away cigarette butts and ashes, make sure they are completely extinguished and don’t toss them into mulch or anything else that could easily ignite.
