A 25 year-old former bank teller has been sentenced to 10 months in jail for stealing more than $117-thousand dollars from the Provincial Credit Union.
Abby Martina Gallant pleaded guilty in May to theft and fraud charges and was sentenced Friday by Provincial Court Judge Jeff Lantz.
Gallant performed 134 fraudulent transactions, taking a total of $117,682.15 from the accounts of six credit union customers between the ages of 65 and 89.
She had been employed at the Provincial Credit Union since 2013 and the offenses occurred between August 2014 and October 2016. The Charlottetown woman used bank cards after she left her employer and continued to withdraw money in 2016 while she was in Australia going to law school.
Following her release from jail, Gallant will be on three years probation.
