Island fishermen will be among the protesters converging on Pictou’s waterfront Friday to make their case against an effluent pipe that will take treated mill waste into the Northumberland Strait.
They’re pushing for the federal government to provide a more detailed environmental assessment of its own, rather than going through with the Nova Scotia government’s 30-day process.
Northern Pulp has said the effluent pipe will meet all standards and is the best alternative to dealing with the mill’s waste.
