Mike MacDonald — one of the best drivers ever in the PEI and Canadian harness racing community — has died. MacDonald, a native of Charlottetown, died Tuesday night at age 70. He won almost 23-hundred races during his career, including a record five Gold Cup & Saucers. MacDonald retired from competition in 2009 and was inducted into the P-E-I Sports Hall of Fame that same year.
Gerard Gallant was a winner at Wednesday night’s NHL Awards, as he won the Jack Adams Trophy as Coach of the Year for leading the expansion Vegas Golden Knights to an incredible first season. Taylor Hall of the Devils won the Hart Trophy as League MVP.
Giancarlo Stanton lined a two-run homer with two outs in the bottom of the ninth inning, lifting the New Yankees to a 7-5 win over the Seattle Mariners. The Jays beat the Braves 5-4. The Twins downed the Red Sox 4-1.
