An Island farmer has received a five-thousand-dollar fine after pesticides from his farm equipment ended up in a creek.
Judge Nancy Orr of Charlottetown provincial court says the Cornwall farmer was negligent and acted carelessly, but did not deliberately discharge the pesticide into Hyde Creek last October.
The Crown was seeking a fine in the range of 30-thousand to 50-thousand dollars, while the defense was seeking a fine between three-thousand and five-thousand-dollars.
He had pleaded guilty in April.
