Morell-Mermaid PC MLA Sidney MacEwen says the Kings County emergency room is facing being closed 13 days in June due to a lack of staff for coverage.
He brought the subject up during Question Period in the PEI legislature on Friday.
MacEwen says the closures will effect the ER Sunday, Monday and Tuesday this week.
The ER was closed several times in May due to a shortage of doctors.
MacEwen says word on the closures this month come in the form of a memo from Health PEI.
Health Minister Robert Mitchell expects other physicians from other parts of the Island will step up to fill most of the vacant spots in the hospital.
The Health Minister says expanding the scope of practice for nurses might help.
That would follow suit with RN’s being allowed to prescribe some medications like Ontario and Manitoba nurses.
