PC MLA Matthew MacKay would like to see kids get 60 minutes a day of physical activity in Island schools.
Right now the elementary students get 75 minutes of phys. ed. a week.
MacKay brought up the issue in the PEI Legislature on Friday.
Education Minister Jordan Brown says a new health curriculum is coming out next fall. It’s being developed right now.
A recent report says children should get 60 minutes of physical activity a day.
MacKay also wants more help from the province for parents who have to registration, equipment and transportation for kids in sports.
He says things have changed since the federal fitness tax credit was dropped.
Minister Brown says the province has invested $700,000 into child care subsidies for parents.
Health Minister Robert Mitchell has also signed a sport bilateral agreement with Ottawa that will help with funding.
