Canada lost the gold medal final, 2-1 in overtime to the USA in the Paralympics sledge hockey final. Summerside’s Billy Bridges scored the only goal for Canada in the first period. Canada wins silver.
Bridges Canada ahead for most the game but the Americans tied it up with only 37 seconds to go on goal by Declan Farmer who scored the game winner at 3.30 in overtime.

The Charlottetown Islanders wrapped up the regular season in the Q with a 5-2 win over the Moncton Wildcats. Pascal Aquin with 2 goals. Derek Gentile had a goal and assist.

It was the 117th coaching win for Jim Hulton of the Islanders, a new franchise record. The Islanders won 37 of 68 games.
The Acadie-Bathurst Titan took first place in the Maritimes with a 5-4 win in Halifax. Mitchell Balmas had 2 goals including the game winner.
Cape Breton downed Saint John, 8-3.
The playoffs begin this week. Charlottetown will open the first facing the Remparts in Quebec City this Saturday and Sunday.

The Summerside Western Capitals evened their first round Maritime Jr. Hockey series with a 6-3 win in Campellton. Chris Chaddock led the attack with a goal and 2 assists. Morgan MacDonald scored twice. The series is tied, 1-1. Game 3 is Monday night at 7.00 at Credit Union Place.

The St F.X. X-Men will play the Alberta Golden Bears in the University Cup final this afternoon.

Toronto’s split squad teams won both games on Saturday in exhibition baseball.
The Jays used their youngest prospects in an 11-3 win over Canada’s National Junior team. Braden Halladay the son of the late Jays star Roy Halladay, pitched a three-up, three down inning in the 8th for Canada.
The other half of the Jays dropped Baltimore, 5-2. Newly acquired Danny Espinosa went 4-for-4 at the plate.
Boston got by Tampa Bay, 4-3.
Detroit over the Yankees, 9-3.

Island amateur wrestler Veronica Keefe has taken a gold medal in her weight division at the Canadian Senior Wrestling Championships in Montreal. Keefe won a gold medal in the 2009 Canada Games for PEI. —
Lauren Lenentine is joining the Kaitlyn Jones rink of Halifax full-time in curling. Lenentine was the alternate for the Jones rink that won the World Junior Championship a week ago. She also skipped PEI’s team at the Canadian Juniors this year.
