A big jump in the number of Islanders who are working full-time over the last two months.

Workforce and Advanced Learning Minister Sonny Gallant says Prince Edward Island’s economy is strong and growing faster than the region and the overall economy. He says on top of the positive trend in the labour force , another strong economic signal from Statistics Canada was an increase of more than 80% in building permits over last year.

Year over year employment increased by 2300 and in total last month, 75,400 Islanders were working.
The unemployment rate on the Island fell from 10.6% in January to 10.1% in February.
PEI also had the highest year to date percentage growth in wages in the country at 4.6%.
