Officials with a Pictou County pulp mill are coming to town this week and the Eastern PEI Chamber of Commerce will be there to greet them.
Northern Pulp representatives will meet with the province’s Standing Committee for Agriculture and Fisheries Friday morning in Charlottetown.
The mill recently announced plans to handle its effluent in a new onsite treatment plant and has proposed then pumping the effluent through an underwater pipeline running from Pictou Harbour to the Northumberland Strait.
Russ Compton is Vice-President of the Eastern PEI Chamber of Commerce and says they had asked Northern Pulp to participate in a public information session, along with the PEI Fishermens Association and Friends of the Northumberland Strait.
Compton says while Fridays meeting is not what they requested, they are strongly urging chamber members and the general public to attend.
