The UPEI men’s hockey Panthers clinched 5th place in the AUS with a spirited 6-3 win over the 6th place Dalhousie Tigers. Beau McHue helped get things rolling in the first period with a goal and two assists as the Panthers led 3-0 just 13 minutes into the game.
Rookie Kameron Keilly added a goal and three assists.
The Panthers honoured six graduating players before the game including team captain Brent Andrews, Darcy Ashley, Marcus Power, Ryan MacKinnon and goalies Matt Mahalak and Connor Wilkinson.
The Panthers will meet either Saint Mary’s or Acadia in the first round of the playoffs.
Acadia blanked the Huskies, 3-0 last but needs a win in Moncton tonight to clinch 3rd place.
UPEI would likely prefer to meet the Axemen who they’ve beaten twice in the last month. The Panthers are 0-5 vs. Saint Mary’s this year.
UNB secured first place with a 5-2 win over second place St. F.X. The Varsity Reds clinch the regular season for the 11th straight year.
UPEI hosts the X-Men on Hockey Day in PEI at the Eastlink Centre at 7.00.
The Charlottetown Islanders host Chicoutimi at 3.00 in the Q.

The Islanders fell 4-1 to Blainville last night. The Armada had two empty net goals at the end. The league’s top scorer, Alex Barre-Boulet (47-52-99) had 2 goals and an assist giving him 99 points. The Armada is first overall and leads second place Halifax by 6 points.Brett Budgell had the only Islanders goal.
Saint John downed the Mooseheads, 6-3. Halifax with two straight losses.
Acadie-Bathurst over Shawinigan, 5-2. Summerside defenseman Noah Dobson picked up an asisst. Dobson is second among defensemen in scoring in the Q with 54 (13-41-54) points.
