Round-robin play at the Scotties Tournament of Hearts has wrapped up. Kerri Einarson led Team Wild Card to a 9-4 victory over Manitoba’s Jennifer Jones to take sole possession of first in Pool A. Einarson enters the playoff round with a 6-1 record, while Jones falls to 5-2, into a three-way tie for second. PEI’s Robyn MacPhee rink upped their record to 2-and-5 with a win over Nunavut 12-4.
A pair of rookie Maple Leafs defenceman had the night of their lives. Justin Holl scored in his N-H-L debut in Toronto’s 5-0 rout of the New York Islanders. Travis Dermott also scored his first N-H-L goal. Elsewhere, Detroit edged San Jose 2-1 in a shootout, and Washington won 5-3 over Philadelphia.
In PEI Midget AAA action, Mid-Isle beat Summerside 5-1, and Western downed Central 3-1
