The group Unincorporated Islanders has issued a letter indicating that all unincorporated areas in Cardigan, Georgetown and Montague Fire Districts are withdrawing from the Three Rivers amalgamation process.
The group was behind the recent plebiscite on the issue for the unincorporated areas, and the letter says the withdrawal from the amalgamation process is effective immediately.
The letter was sent to Brian Harding, Chair of the Three Rivers Steering Committee.
The plebiscite saw 1174 residents of unincorporated areas vote “no” to amalgamation, compared to 76 “yes” votes.
The letter calls on Government to shelve the Three Rivers amalgamation until it or another government is prepared to hold a “real, meaningful and transparent consultation process.”
