Connor McDavid has once again showed that he’s the fastest skater in the NHL. The Edmonton Oilers captain became the first player to be the fastest skater winner in back-to back years at the All-Star game skills competition. Flames winger Johnny Gaudreau topped the puck control relay and Brock Boeser of the Vancouver Canucks took the accuracy shooting competition. Alex Ovechkin of the Capitals had the fastest shot at over 101 miles per hour.

The Cape Breton Screaming Eagles trimmed the Charlottetown Islanders, 2-1 in the Q. Thomas Casey with the lone Islanders goal. Phelix Martineau scored the winner on a power play at 16.50 in the third.
Moncton got by Chicoutimi, 5-4. Summerside’s Jeremy McKenna with his 26th goal for the Wildcats.
First place Halifax dumped Saint John, 5-2. Maxime Fournier with 2 goals for the Mooseheads.

PEI’s Robyn MacPhee rink took an 11-6 loss to Newfoundland-Labrador as the 2018 Scotties began in Penticton, BC. MacPhee led 4-1 early.
PEI plays Alberta and BC today.

The UPEI men’s basketball Panthers have their first win of the season after downing Cape Breton, 71-63. The Panthers now 1-12. Milorad Sedlarevic led the attack with 21 points.
The UPEI women’s Panthers improved to 7-6 as they stopped the Capers, 76-65. Another big night for Kiera Rigby who had 31 points.

The Island Storm improved to 10-11 with a 126-112 road win at Cape Breton in the NBL. Franklin Session with 28 points and 8 rebounds.

First place Holland College is 12-1 after a 110-52 romp over UNB Saint John. Anton Kostakos had 19 points. Roosevelt Whyley with 15 points and 12 rebounds.
The women Canes are second at 9-2 after an 72-63 victory over the Sea Wolves. Jenna MacInnis with 26 points and 11 rebounds.

The Summerside Western Capitals routed St. Stephen, 7-1 in Maritime Jr. Hockey. Rookie Cam Roberts with a hat-trick. Brodie MacArthur added a goal and 3 assists. The league’s top scorer, T.J. Shea had two assists. He has 88 points.

Moncton got by UPEI, 3-1 in AUS women’s hockey. The Panthers have lost 6 in a row (4-10-7).
In AUS men’s, UNB moved to within a point of first place St. F.X with a 7-4 win over Moncton.
Acadia dropped Dalhousie, 6-2. The Tigers stay 2 points back of UPEI for 5th place.

Sherwood bounced Kings County, 9-2 and Pownal downed the Western Regals, 4-1 in the Midget AAA playoffs in the Spud Tournament.
