The Nature Conservancy of Canada has purchased 57 hectares of land in the province.
The land in Abrams Village, west of Summerside, includes rare salt marsh habitat.
Julie Vasseur the Nature Conservancy’s PEI Program Director says the land was purchased from private owners.
The Conservancy says the protected land at the mouth of the Haldimand River is an undisturbed habitat for many species of birds including the great blue heron and the belted kingfisher.
