Premier Wade MacLauchlan is voicing concerns over the proposed waste treatment plans at the Northern Pulp mill in Pictou County.
MacLauchlan has written a letter to federal Environment Minister Catherine McKenna and Nova Scotia Premier Stephen McNeil saying his government will not support the project as proposed.
He says an outflow pipe from the facility would allow as much as 75-thousand cubic metres of fresh warm water to go into the Northumberland Strait each day.
The Premier says that could have “unintended consequences” for the commercial fishery and aquaculture industries, pointing to lobster as one of the species that could be affected.
