The UPEI men’s hockey Panthers used three Marcus Power goals to stun the #6 ranked Acadia Axemen, 5-1 in the AUS in a feisty affair.
Power scored even strength, on a power play and shorthanded.
UPEI stays two points up on 6th place Dalhousie. The Tigers blanked last place Moncton, 4-0.
UNB is alone in first by a point after a 3-2 edging of Saint Mary’s. The Huskies visit the Panthers tonight.

The Charlottetown Islanders lost 5-4 in Baie-Comeau in the Q. Sam King put the Isles up 4-3 early in the third but a shorthanded goal and a power play maker gave the Drakkar the win. Hot scoring Daniel Hardie scored twice. He has 5 goals in two games. Charlottetown wraps up their three game road trip in Rimouski on Sunday.

The Truro Bearcats trimmed the Summerside Western Capitals, 5-4 in the MHL. Campbell Pickard with the game winner on a power play with only 31 seconds left. T.J. Shea scored twice for the Caps to extend his point scoring streak to 29 games. The Caps winning streak ends at 5 games.

The Florida Panthers got by the Las Vegas Golden Knights, 4-3 in overtime in the NHL. Aaron Ekblad scored the winner in OT.
Montreal used a pair of Max Pacioretty goals to edged Washington, 3-2.
Anaheim over Los Angeles, 2-1. Ryan Kessler got the winner with just over 7 minutes left in the third.

The Island Storm lost its 6th in a row in NBL basketball, falling 112-110 to the London Lightning. The Storm is 8-10 and fourth in the Atlantic. Royce White with 30 points for the Lightning. Chris Johnson had 30 for the Storm and Franklin Session added 24 in the back and forth contest. The Storm hosts Saint John tonight.

The Toronto Blue Jays have added 26-year old outfielder Randal Grichuk in a trade that sends the St. Louis Cardinals reliever Dominc Leone and pitching prospect Connor Greene. Grichuk hit .238 with 22 homers and 59 RBIs with the Cards in 2017.

The dean of NHL hockey writers has passed away. Red Fisher was 91. He covered the Montreal Canadiens during their heyday in the 50’s, 60’s and 70’s and was considered one of the best at his craft in Canada.

The two Island rinks wrapped up the Canadian Juniors Curling in Shawinigan. Lauren Lententine was 5-1 in the round round and 5-5 overall including playoffs.
Alex MacFadyen went 4-5. James Dalton on the MacFadeyn rink was given a Fair Play Award.
