Traffic restrictions remain in place on the Confederation Bridge with gusts as high as 120kh this morning. They have been decreasing in speed, but are still just under 100kh. On Thursday night, at some points, the winds gusting in the Strait were up to 139kh and forced a short complete closure of the bridge.
Winds strengthened Friday morning, with gusts to 90-100kh. Those strong winds resulted in power outages in dozens of communities across the province.
At the peak of the outages, more than 5000 customers were without power. At about 10:30 am Friday, crews were able to restore power to the New Haven area and that reduced the number of affected customers to 2900. By noontime, the number was down to 264.
As a result of the strengthening winds and conditions, all classes in the Public Schools Branch and with French Language School Board were cancelled for the day.
