Canadian N-H-L teams didn’t fare so well Tuesday night with none of the five franchises picking up wins. The Maple Leafs were blanked 2-0 by Tampa Bay, Edmonton lost 5-0 to the Kings and the Canucks were shut out 5-0 against Anaheim. Montreal dropped its fifth straight, losing 4-1 to San Jose, and the Avalanche edged Winnipeg 3-2 in O-T. Elsewhere, Boston beat the N.Y. Islanders 5-1, and Vegas blanked Nashville 3-0
In Bantam AAA action, the Eastern Express beat the Mid-Isle Matrix 7-0.
It’s an off-day at the world junior hockey championship in Buffalo. Canada breezed into the semifinals Tuesday with an 8-2 quarterfinal victory over Switzerland. Drake Batherson led the Canadians with two goals. Canada will face the Czech Republic Thursday with a chance to advance into the final for the second straight year.
UPEI Panther action resumes in a big way this coming weekend. Both hockey teams are in action on Friday and Saturday. On Friday night the men host St. FX, while the women are at Mt. A. Then on Saturday, the women’s Panther host St. FX, and the men host Dalhousie.
The Basketball Panthers play at St. FX Saturday night.
