Canada takes on Switzerland Tuesday afternoon in quarterfinal action at the world junior hockey championship in Buffalo. The Canadians finished preliminary round action atop Group A at 3-0-and-1. Meanwhile, the U-S faces Russia, Finland takes on the Czech Republic and Sweden plays Slovakia in the other quarterfinal matchups.
The Summerside Western Capitals lost 4-3 to the Amherst Ramblers in their New Year’s Day tilt.
The Charlottetown Islanders have made a couple of trades. The Islanders are sending Gregor MacLeod and Matthew Grouchy to the Quebec Remparts for 18 year old centre Derek Gentile. He has 14 goals and 33 points in 37 games for the Remparts. Charlottetown will also get a 3rd round draft pick in 2019.
Charlottetown has also acquired 20-year old forward Cameron Askew, who has 13 goals and 24 points for Shawinigan.

The 104th Rose Bowl was a thriller. Number 3 Georgia beat Number 2 Oklahoma 54-48 to earn a berth in the College Football Playoff championship game. The Bulldogs will play for their first national title since 1980. They will face Alabama as the the Number 4 Crimson Tide dominated Clemson 24-6 in the Sugar Bowl.
