Three Islanders who have spent a good deal of their lifetime being involved in the community will be invested into the Order of Canada.
Allan Andrews, Basil Stewart and Ray Murphy are among 125 named to the Order of Canada.
Allan Andrews from Cornwall is being recognized for his involvement in hockey as a renowned leader, mentor, and his dedication to training players to become not only good players but people.
Andrews has helped train hundreds of players including Sidney Crosby and Brad Richards through Andrews Hockey Growth.
Basil Stewart was mayor of Summerside for nearly 30 years and has played a role in helping PEI’s economic growth and development. He has served on several regional and national boards. He is currently a member of the board of directors for the National Capital Commission.
Ray Murphy of Charlottetown is being recognized for his excellent business leadership on the Island and being an advocate for healthy communities. He and his family are behind Murphy’s Pharmacies and the Murphy’s Community Centre on Richmond Street.
He is also a member of the Order of PEI and was named Charlottetown’s business person of the year in 2016.
