Plans have been scrapped for a New Year’s Eve celebration in Victoria Park.
Due to the extremely cold weather and forecasts suggesting the freezing temperatures are to continue into the New Year, the City of Charlottetown’s Capital New Year has been cancelled.
Organizers with the city say with the low temperatures and wind chill, the risk of frost bite was too high for the outdoor event in Victoria Park, where there would be little to no shelter for the public to keep warm.
The event was to include horse and wagon rides, a laser dance party, fireworks and, ironically enough, an outdoor screening of the Disney movie, Frozen.
