After lasting nearly six weeks, the fall sitting of the PEI legislature wrapped up Wednesday.
That’s an unusually long fall sitting for the house.
This sitting saw a total of 18 bills passed, most notably the Water Act. It was a contentious bill with lengthy debate as both the Opposition PCs and Greens voiced concerns over cabinet being able
overrule a ban on fracking. In the end, Government brought in an amendment that removed that right of the cabinet.

It was certainly a firey end to the session as Green Party Leader Peter Bevan-Baker was ordered removed from the legislature by the Speaker just moments before it ended. Bevan-baker was escorted out by the Sergeant-at-Arms when he refused to retract what was deemed to be unparliamentary language. In voicing concerns about the level of debate on some bills in this session, he called it a “farce.” Bevan-Baker refused to retract the langauge, and was removed.
