The Eastern Prince Edward Island Chamber of Commerce is supporting concerns of the PEI Fishermen’s Association over proposed changes for Northern Pulp in Nova Scotia to discard effluent into the Northumberland Strait.
In a statement the Chamber says fishermen in the Northumberland Strait and Eastern Gulf of St. Lawrence have legitimate concerns over the new plan and how it will affect their livelihood.
They feel there is potential threat to the fishery.
The Pictou pulp mill is located directly across from PEI and manufactures 280,000 tonnes of pulp each year while operating all year round.
